Alexandre Cornet, awarded for his work Saltation.
In 1962, following Algerian independence, Alexandre Cornet’s family left Algeria for the first time since settling there at the beginning of the colonial period. Sixty years later, after several attempts at dialogue with his father, he realised that the unspoken aspects of the colonial occupation were also present within his family. To question the erosion of this memory that is not passed on, and to understand its foundations, Alexandre Cornet is looking for traces of it elsewhere.
To watch!
Saltation is being shown at the OVNi International Video Art Festival, at the Fondation Maeght (Saint-Paul-de-Vence) until 1 December 2024.
My intention was to combine two forms of erosion: the mineral erosion of sand by the wind, described by the scientific phenomenon known as saltation, and the erosion of the Blackfoot family memory that is not passed on.
