30/05/2023 – Cannes, Provence
The Louis Roederer Foundation, true to its desire to reveal emerging talent, has been involved alongside La Semaine de la Critique since 2018 through the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award. Given to an actor or actress from one of the seven feature films in competition, the aim of this Prize is to highlight a performer for one of their first film appearances or for a particularly outstanding role in their career.
The jury of the 62nd Semaine de la Critique awarded the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award to Jovan Ginic for his role in Lost Country.
The second feature film by Serbian director Vladimir Perisic, co-written with screenwriter Alice Winocour, depicts an intimate and political fresco set in Belgrade, a city marked by student demonstrations against Milosevic’s regime in 1996.
Against this backdrop, we follow the journey of a 15-year-old boy, brilliantly played by the young Serbian Jovan Ginic. Torn between his own convictions and his love for his mother, a corrupt politician and spokesperson for the regime, he must find the strength to confront her.
Jovan Ginic’s restrained performance is admirable. It allows us to appreciate all the torments of her character and reinforces the issues developed by the politically-aware script. His first film performance is a sure sign of his future success.
