LA SEMAINE DE LA CRITIQUE AT THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL
True to its desire to support young talent, in 2018 the Louis Roederer Foundation, together with La Semaine de la Critique team, created the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award, which recognises a young actor for the quality of their first performance.

Revealing the most promising actors
Conceived in parallel with the official festival and organised by the Syndicat Français de la Critique du Cinéma, the aim of La Semaine de la Critique is to shine the spotlight on emerging young film-makers.
It carries out invaluable work in this area, screening over 1,000 international feature films and 1,300 shorts every year. All with very keen intuition, since in the past La Semaine has recognised films by virtual unknowns – Ken Loach, Alejandro González Iñarritu and François Ozon. It also spotted Julia Ducournau with her first short film in 2011 and Justine Triet with her first feature in 2016, well before they both won the Palme d’Or.
Good directors compose their films with and around their leads and the Foundation’s award honours this special relationship in the spirit of La Semaine de la Critique. We focus on a film and its director while the Louis Roederer Foundation extends the same logic to the performance of an actor. All with the same values and the same vision.

Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award
Every year, the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award identifies, encourages and recognises an actor from one of the seven feature films in competition. The prize serves to highlight a performer for one of their first film appearances or for a particularly outstanding role in their career.
