Born 1986 in Santiago Zacatepec Mixe, Oaxaca, Mexico, Octavio Aguilar lives and works in Santiago Zacatepec Mixe, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Octavio Aguilar studied at the School of Arts in Oaxaca. His work spans media such as drawing, painting, photography, installation, sculpture, video and performance; with a criticality on Western and official representational policies that exclude plurality in conceptualizations of the body, space and time, as well as Communal, linguistic and cosmological cultural systems. Aguilar coordinates the Taller Ayuuk, a space for dialogue and exchange of knowledge created with Ayuuk persons and Ayuuk language speakers (Mixe from Oaxaca).
