Kupka, pioneer of abstraction

21/03/2018

Louis Roederer Foundation supports Kupka, Pionnier de l’abstraction exhibition running at Grand Palais from March 21st to July 30th 2018.

The decision to support the Kupka. Pionnier de l’abstraction exhibition was an easy one to take. The man is exciting. Generous and modest, he constantly feeds his thinking on philosophy, on ancient and oriental cultures, and even science and religions. His journey is exciting too – taking him from Bohemia, where he was born, to Vienna where he learnt his craft, then to Paris where he discovered the joyful freedom of the avant-garde.

From symbolism and expressionist portraits to abstraction, in his 40 years, from the chromatic violence of organic paintings to geometric abstraction, the 300 or so works brought together for the exhibition at the Grand Palais allows us to follow the major creative stages in the life of this “pioneer of abstraction”. For a patron, there is no greater joy than to be able to facilitate access to such an exciting work.
