Prize for Sustainability 2024
06/11/2023
Created in 2021, the Louis Roederer Foundation Photography Prize for Sustainability supports both creativity and ethical considerations by recognising a photographer who has taken on an environmental issue. Since culture is both a catalyst for and a vector of economic, social and environmental influence, the Louis Roederer Foundation is convinced that no development can be sustainable without a strong cultural component. It is proud to support this Prize and contribute to a better understanding of the world and mutual respect.
The nature and challenges of sustainable development differ from one continent to another and the Louis Roederer Foundation has reorganised the Photography Prize to reflect this, strengthening its international scope at the same time.

Thus, nominators representing the 5 continents each submit the names of 3 photographers working on sustainable development from the angle of the Natural Sciences or Humanities. Photographers must be from the continent they represent or have live there for at least 5 years. Applications closed on 31 October 2023. Between November 2023 and the end of January 2024, the international jury, made up of 12 leading figures from the world of art and sensitive to the issue of sustainable development, will examine all 54 applications. At the end of January 2024, the jury will vote for their favourite photographer from each continent. After deliberations in February 2024, the winner will be chosen from the 6 finalists (the American continent is subdivided into North America and South America) who received the majority of votes.
At the same time, ecologists, philosophers, economists, sociologists and scientists will be invited to write about one aspect of sustainable development. An art historian’s text will accompany and explore the winner’s work.
All the texts and photo series by the finalists and the winner will be available online.
