Planche(s) Contact, Festival of Photography in Deauville
18/11/2013
For the Louis Roederer Foundation, the most important aspect of Planche(s) Contact is its focus on artistic creation. Of course, the quality and prestige of the participants are outstanding. Bettina Rheims chairs the panel of judges; Patrick Rémy serves as artistic director. Not to mention some outstanding artists – Massimo Vitali and Meffre & Marchand in 2011, Paolo Roversi, Filip Dujardin, Kourtney Roy and Simon Procter in 2012, and this year Harry Gruyaert, Gunmar Smoliansky, Grégoire Alexandre, Audrey Corregan, Kishin Shinoyama, Zhuan Jay, Lucie & Simon, Terri Weifenbach. Then again, there are organizers, headed by Philippe Augier, conjuring up a wind of authentic artistic talent that blows accross Deauville.
The fact remains, however, that none of this would be worthwhile without the total commitment of the festival to artistic creation. No honorary retrospectives here, no recycling of exhibitions held elsewhere – nothing but original works, created in residency in Deauville especially for Planche(s) Contact, and embodying the genuine commitment of each artist.
As a result of this firm commitment, lovers of contemporary photography can rest assured that when they come to Deauville, they will see nothing but original, inspired works. For their part, Louis Roederer and the Louis Roederer Foundation are of course delighted that “The Quest for Works of Art”, has been part of this artistic engagement right from its inception – and can continue to be so.
This year, Tono Mejuto & Camille Picquot win the Louis Roederer Foundation contest.
