THE LOUIS ROEDERER
FOUNDATION

The Louis Roederer Foundation actively supports contemporary creativity and the transmission of knowledge. It celebrates thought and gesture and explores what we universally share: the word, the note and the image, through literature, music, the performing arts and the visual and plastic arts. At the heart of its support and actions, it creates bridges and resonances. Its aim is to contribute to the beauty and understanding of the world.

With commitment and high standards, our Foundation supports original and authentic projects in line with the spirit of the Louis Roederer House: to assert a singularity, a freedom of spirit.

Genesis

From its very beginnings, the Louis Roederer Champagne House forged close ties with culture. In the 19th century, it became one of the most prestigious private libraries in France, and this tradition was strengthened in the 20th century under Camille Olry-Roederer, an enlightened patron and emblematic figure who ran the Louis Roederer House for 40 years putting down firm roots in the artistic world.

In 2003, this commitment took a decisive turn thanks to the admiration shown by Jean-Claude Rouzaud, Camille’s grandson, for the photograph collection at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. This led the Louis Roederer House to become a key supporter of photography at the Bibliothèque.

In recognition of its growing involvement in the arts, the French Ministry of Culture awarded Louis Roederer the title of Major Patron of Culture and the Arts in 2010. The following year, Frédéric Rouzaud, Camille’s great-grandson, created the Louis Roederer Foundation.

Support for institutions

In addition to its historic partnership with the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Louis Roederer Foundation supported the Palais de Tokyo from 2012 to 2020, and more specifically its Carte Blanche projects with artists such as Philippe Parreno, Camille Henrot and Tomás Saraceno.

In 2013, it became a partner of the Grand Palais and its major exhibitions, such as those dedicated to Bill Viola and Kupka.

The Louis Roederer Foundation may have begun with a focus on photography, it has since taken the liberty of exploring all artistic fields through prestigious institutions in France and abroad, helping to enrich our vision of the world.

The Foundation of all creations

Since 2022, under the artistic direction of Audrey Bazin, the Louis Roederer Foundation has been stepping up its support and developing its own initiatives in the fields of both creativity and research.

Through its awards at Arles, Cannes and Deauville and its Carte Blanche projects, the Louis Roederer Foundation plays an active role in helping talented artists break through. At the same time, it is building up its own collection of works.

In 2024, the international Thinking Sustainability Thinking Sustainability programme was launched, inviting photographers and researchers from all over the world to tackle the issue of sustainable development.

The Louis Roederer Foundation is also involved in the Roederer Collection wine estates, with cultural initiatives specific to each site, opening up new horizons.
