On Saturday 14 September 2019, at the closing ceremony of the 45th Deauville American Film Festival, the Revelation Jury awarded the Louis Roederer Foundation Revelation Prize to the film ‘Bull’, the first feature film by director Annie Silverstein. The film also won the Grand Prix and the Critics’ Prize.
The film focuses on a teenager from the poor suburbs of Houston who, while her mother is serving a prison sentence, ransacks her neighbour’s house in a purely gratuitous act of youth. Having to make amends, she is forced to lend a helping hand to the owner of the vandalised house, a former rodeo star. Accompanying him on the Texas circuits, she discovers a passion for the art of riding bulls bareback. But when she returns home, bad company is never far away…
‘Bull’ is director Annie Silverstein’s first feature film. Before obtaining her Master’s degree in film production from the University of Texas at Austin (USA), she worked for over ten years as an educator, collaborating on film projects with young American Indians on the reservations of Washington State.
